13 May Volunteering with Wildlife: Conservation Projects for Nature Lovers in 2025

Travelers in 2025 are seeking more than just beautiful destinations—they’re looking for ways to make a positive impact. Wildlife conservation volunteering is a powerful way to give back, offering hands-on experiences that help protect animals and preserve fragile ecosystems. Whether you’re passionate about rainforest wildlife or animal welfare in vibrant cities, Give a Day Global connects you with trusted organizations making a real difference.
Protecting Wildlife in Costa Rica: Kids Saving The Rainforest

Located near the lush Manuel Antonio National Park, Kids Saving The Rainforest is a standout organization for anyone passionate about rainforest conservation. Founded by two young girls and now a well-established nonprofit, this wildlife rescue center cares for injured and orphaned animals, aiming to rehabilitate and release them back into the wild. The organization also maintains a sanctuary for animals that cannot survive on their own, leads reforestation efforts, and builds “monkey bridges” to help monkeys safely cross roads and avoid power lines.
Volunteers at Kids Saving The Rainforest support staff by maintaining animal habitats, preparing food, making enrichment toys, repairing enclosures, and organizing supplies. Larger groups may assist with trail maintenance and reforestation projects. While direct animal contact is not permitted for one-day volunteers (to protect the animals’ well-being), your efforts directly contribute to the care and rehabilitation of Costa Rica’s incredible wildlife. Opportunities are open to singles, couples, families, and groups, typically on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for a 7-hour day. Learn more here!
Animal Welfare in Mexico: S.P.A. San Miguel de Allende

If your travels take you to Mexico, consider volunteering with the Sociedad Protectora de Animales (S.P.A.) in San Miguel de Allende. As the only no-kill animal shelter in the city, S.P.A. has been a leader in animal welfare since 1980, caring for around 100 cats and dogs at any given time. Their mission includes protecting animals from cruelty, promoting responsible pet care, and curbing overpopulation through education and affordable services.
Volunteers are essential to the daily operations of S.P.A. You can help by walking dogs—an activity that socializes them and increases their chances of adoption—or by playing with cats and puppies. This is a perfect opportunity for singles, couples, or families who want to make a difference in just a few hours. Volunteer shifts are available Monday through Saturday and typically last 1–3 hours.
