Pantanal is a barrio on the outskirts of Granada, about one hour from the capital city of Managua. Unemployment, malnutrition, and lack of educational opportunities are issues facing the community. Homes in Pantanal are mostly dirt-floor shacks that provide little protection from the elements and lack modern amenities such as running water and electricity.

In addition to promoting the restoration and preservation of the Historic Center of Panama City, the Fundacion Calicanto provides training for local women with a series of workshops focusing on life skills and career development, as well as after-school performing arts classes for children.The program has graduated 751 women since 2005, of which 59% are currently employed at hotels and other businesses.

Roughly 20 minutes outside the bustling, tourist-filled historical center of Cusco lies the small, rural (and largely unknown) community of Tankarpata. As Cusco’s most economically deprived area, Tankarpata lacks basic public amenities, such as access to safe drinking water and sewers. In addition, there is a lack of educational opportunities for the children in this community.

Afrika Tikkun’ Cradle to Career programs provide comprehensive educational opportunities beginning with early childhood development through job placement programs. The programs provide a range of services for students ages 2-25 years with the aim of preparedness for higher education or to enter the workforce.

Masicorp works for the people of the Masiphumelele township, which is home to a community of more than 38,000 people disadvantaged by the historical legacy of apartheid and poverty. Masicorp spearheads education initiatives and investment in enterprise so that the people there can improve their lives.
