S.P.A  – San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

The Sociedad Protectora de Animales de San Miguel de Allende has been leading the charge in animal welfare since 1980. It is the only no-kill animal shelter for dogs and cats in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and houses an average of 100 animals (cats and dogs). The S.P.A.’s missions include helping to protect dogs and cats and avoid cruelty to them, spreading the word about improving pet care, curbing overpopulation, and working with others to accomplish these goals.

How can volunteers help? This non-profit organization mostly relies on donations and volunteer help for its daily operations. Volunteers can help walk dogs which helps to socialize the dogs and makes them more adoptable. They need help making sure all of the adolescent and older dogs get a daily walk. You can also play with cats and puppies! See the Give a Day Global listing to learn more.

ENTREAMIGOS – Sayulita and San Pancho, Mexico

EntreAmigos started in 2006 as a small sidewalk project to teach arts & crafts, but has since grown into a beautiful community center. Now residing in a giant restored warehouse, EntreAmigos provides numerous classes and activities for locals and visitors alike, as well as a community garden, recycling center, bilingual library, and circus school. They hold public English lessons, computer classes, and have awarded education scholarships to over 80 local children from the community.

How can volunteers help? EntreAmigos often welcomes volunteers to assist in the Recicla Shop organizing donated clothing, helping out in the library or lending a hand in their workshops on preparing glassware, stringing beads, and cutting cardboard for packaging.
